Peaches For Me

Follow Me on Pinterest

The inspiration for this quick post comes from consecutive days of eating the juiciest, most delicious peach I have had in a long time. I’m talking about the kind of peach that causes juice to dribble down your chin and if you’re like me, onto your office desk. I have put together a list of what is in season from now through August.

Which brings me to my next point – we often hear the phrase, “in season,” and some may be wondering exactly what that means. “In season,” simply referrs to the time of year when a particular food is at its peak, in terms of flavor, harvest, price and freshness.

So, hit your farmer’s market, produce store or grocery store to pick up the best that the season has to offer. I tend to prefer the farmer’s market or produce store – they seem to offer fresher produce at cheaper prices. Check back at the end of the summer for fall favorites.

  • Summer Fruits and Vegetables (through August)
  • Apricots
  • Blueberries
  • Cantaloupe
  • Corn
  • Cucumbers
  • Eggplant
  • Grapes
  • Green Beans
  • Kiwi
  • Peaches
  • Plums
  • Raspberries
  • Strawberries
  • Summer Squash
  • Tomatoes (if you can, sample heirloom tomatoes from the farmer’s market)
  • Watermelon

ooh yes. I make all my food for my son! His fave’s seem to be broccoli, beets, craorts and cantalope! (but he also enjoys eating a turnip/rootabaga blend, peaches/spinach blend, eggplant, and yams! He doesn’t seem to care for the texture of green beans! haha) I loove knowing exactly what he’s eating, and that it’s not a bunch of sugary food.
